Queer Music Jam

Queer Music Jam is a Toronto based community dedicated to creating an inclusive and empowering space for everyone who identifies as a woman, non-binary, or trans. It aims to address the challenges faced by individuals of marginalized genders in traditional musical environments.

At Queer Music Jam, we provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere where people can socialize, connect, and express themselves through music. Our jams are specifically designed to be beginner-friendly, fostering a supportive environment for individuals of all skill levels.

Whether you’re an experienced musician or just starting out, Queer Music Jam offers the opportunity to rock out and have fun. Join us as we come together to celebrate diversity, creativity, and the joy of making music.

LOCATION & DATE

Sunday January 7/2024 (2-5pm)

LYNX MUSIC STUDIO
260 Emerson Avenue
Queer Music Jam will be hosted in the “Live Room”

HOW TO RSVP

Please contact @queermusicjam through Instagram to sign up and to RSVP a spot. $10 e-transfer will be needed to reserve a spot to help cover the studio room fee. 3 spots will be available for folks where the studio fee is a barrier – no questions asked!

** The $10 is non-refundable to ensure we can afford the room. Please only RSVP if you can make it to the jam! If you cancel, your spot will be offered to another singer or musician for free to help fill that space in time for the jam.

AVAILABLE GEAR

For our jams, Lynx Music Studio is already equipped with:
– 4 guitar amps
– 1 bass amp
– 1 drum set
– 4 microphones

WHAT TO BRING: your instruments, cables, sticks, tuners, and any gear you need!
Lynx Music also has keyboards for rent for $10!

Our approach

The first 10 people to sign up can select one song from the list of songs below! These songs will form our setlist. Once all 10 songs are selected the list will be distributed to the RSVPs.

In the jam, we’ll play along to the recording and then try playing without the music. There is enough equipment and space in the room that everyone can sing and play on all the songs. Queer Music Jam is a communal style, practice jam – think of it like a camp sing-a-long meets live karaoke with some cool queers.

We will have booklets of chord charts available for musicians and lyric books for singers at the jam. Please note that these are simplified chord charts for beginner guitar and bass players to play along. If you’d like to learn the actual riffs to the songs, there should be tabs and resources available online through sites like Ultimate Guitar. It’s not expected for musicians to learn the music ahead of time, but it is recommended to familiarize yourself with the setlist songs ahead of the jam.

The Song List & Set List

The first 10 people to sign up can select a song from the list below to add to the setlist! Please select only one song, and message the song to @queermusicjam on Instagram.
